Youth are 100% of the future!
“Engaging people 13-25 achieves the greatest conservation impact as they tend to be the most interested and willing to act, with high potential to influence others.”
From “America, the Ocean, and Climate Change: New Research Insights for Conservation, Awareness, and Action” by The Ocean Project
Ocean Youth (OY) enables youth to gain the skills & knowledge to implement solutions to some of the big, hairy issues our oceans face, and influence others to take positive ocean action too.
ABOUT OCEAN YOUTH
We are global, youth-informed, and science-based. Whether you are coast-based or landlocked we have something for everyone.
FACE TO FACE: Some locations offer a program that consists of interactive, immersive, and skills-building activities. Keep an eye on our socials as we recruit for the face-to-face program.
LOCATION INDEPENDENT: We offer a range of opportunities to engage with our Ocean Youth community & have your voice heard. Join our community through our news and updates so we can continue the conversation.
OUR KEY PILLARS
CONNECTION
Connecting to nature is one of the most important things you can do: it benefits your mental health & helps our beautiful planet. There’s nothing like being in nature to make you fall in love with it and want to protect it.
The same goes for connecting to a like-minded community. If you love the ocean & want to learn how to protect it then you’re in the right place!
EDUCATION
This is where you get to learn about the exciting jobs in the sustainability & environmental industries and the transferable skills to help you.
There’s so much happening in the Green & Blue Economies; some of the jobs that are needed haven’t even been created yet.
Ocean Youth creates opportunities for you to learn about these important industries.
INNOVATION
We want to hear your ideas for solutions to some of our oceans’ challenges. Our Wave of Change initiative supports you(th) to create ideas that help our planet.
There have been some amazing ideas created by our OY community that have created inspiring waves of change throughout their communities. This is one of our favourite parts of what we do!
Join our community by subscribing to our newsletter & following us on our socials & see how you can get involved.
THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER!
COSTS (FOR FACE TO FACE PROGRAMS ONLY)
FACE TO FACE The cost of the face to face program varies as the program varies across locations. To find out about the program near you apply through the online application process. Our local facilitators will then be in touch with more program details including events and program fees, which cover Ocean Youth facilitators’ salary + activities scheduled as part of the program.
ONLINE Access to the Ocean Youth online platform is free.
PROGRAM INCLUSIONS
Program fees cover a minimum of 4 workshops. These events may include unplanned activities such as animal rescues & releases, school outreach and community events such as clean ups.
We do our best to have dates in place at the start of the year, however unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather or situations beyond our control with guest presenters may mean dates need to change. Participants must keep an eye on their agreed communications channel (these may differ from site to site) to ensure awareness of any date/time changes.
Program fees must be paid in full prior to the commencement of the program. You will receive a notification for payment request once we have locked in our program calendar and upon acceptance to the program.
All of our Ocean Youth facilitators are tertiary qualified and experienced to deliver Ocean Youth and have the relevant government required checks to do so.
SPECIAL NEEDS
If you have a special need or learning challenge, please disclose this as part of your application to the Ocean Youth program. Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, OCD, or any other recognised learning or behavioural challenge MUST be disclosed on your application form so our staff are informed.
REFUNDS POLICY
You can ask for a replacement or refund if the problem with the service (Ocean Youth program) is major. We will take into account how much time has passed since you paid for the service (Ocean Youth program) considering the following factors:
- type of product
- how a consumer is likely to use the product
- the length of time for which it is reasonable for the product to be used
- the amount of use it could reasonably be expected to tolerate before the failure becomes noticeable.
For a major problem with services, you can cancel the contract and obtain a refund or seek compensation for the drop in value of your services provided compared to the price paid.
What is a major problem?
A service has a major problem when:
- it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it;
- it is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time;
- it does not meet the specific purpose you asked for and cannot easily be fixed within a reasonable time;
- it creates an unsafe situation.
A major problem is NOT:
- Being unavailable to attend a pre-arranged event for personal reasons, illness, travel, lack of transport etc.;
- Changing your mind.
